Dr. Taslim Alani, Ph.D.

Psychologist, (Supervised Practice)

Dr. Taslim Alani has spent much of her training and clinical career working with diverse applications of Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy. She believes that while she has the skills and training to support her clients as they navigate and overcome difficult life challenges, her clients themselves know what they need to overcome these challenges. As such, she takes a collaborative approach to working with clients, and aims to honour each person’s life experiences. To best support her clients, Dr. Alani most often employs traditional Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT). Dr. Alani works with both adolescents and adults, and has experience working with depression, anxiety, adjustment, behavioural difficulties, eating disorders, trauma, neurocognitive disorders, and personality disorders. She has extensive experience working with culturally diverse and/or marginalized populations, and aims to create a safe, inclusive and empowering environment for each of her clients.

Dr. Alani completed her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Lakehead University. Prior to her doctorate, she completed a masters in Clinical Psychology with a Specialization in Women’s Studies from Lakehead University and a masters in International Development Studies from Dalhousie University. Dr. Alani’s previous experiences include working within community mental health settings, inpatient programs, and both forensic and correctional settings, including a year with Eastern Health in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Her research experiences include developing culturally-competent interventions for diverse populations, understanding and working with intimate partner violence/domestic violence survivors, reducing mental health stigma, body image, and working with eating disorders.
